How to read these numbers

  • Hiking times are estimates for the whole outing including short breaks, worked out from distance and climb: an average hiker covers about 4 km an hour on the flat plus an hour for every 400 m of climbing. Fit hikers take about 30% less, slower hikers about 45% more. Steep, rocky or snowy trails take longer.
  • Distance and elevation gain are for the route shown (round trip unless it says one way or loop), from published trail guides and park sources linked on each hike.
  • Drive times are from Whistler Village in normal traffic. Gravel and 4x4 roads vary a lot with conditions; ~ means a rough estimate.
  • Difficulty: Easy = mostly flat and well made. Moderate = a few hours with real climbing. Difficult = long, steep or rough. Very difficult = a big day only for fit, experienced hikers.
  • Before you go: check BC Parks for day-use passes and closures, tell someone your plan, carry the essentials and know that weather in the alpine changes fast. See AdventureSmart.
